In this post I will explain step by step how to make a search query in Google to know exactly how your website is ranking according to the country you are interested in. This is very interesting to those website owners that want to know exactly how their site is ranking on Google with certain keywords.
In our previous post I spoke about How to Browse Privately without being tracked by Google. In this occasion we will apply this same system to know how our website is ranking. Most of the Internet users aren’t aware of the fact that Search Engines track all our moves and behaviour while surfing the web in order to give us targeted ads. This is a great way of targeted publicity and marketing but for our purpose it may give us distorted results. So in order to get accurate results we will browse through a Proxy Browser.
With this method we can be sure that the search results Google will give us are going to be neutral because it will not know who is browsing. Bear in mind that this method is only good to check your ranking, but not for SEO purposes. As Search Enginges still know we are browsing through a proxy server it is not recommended to click on your site’s result’s link. Just look at what position you are for your records. If you want to increase your search traffic I will talk about increasing your search traffic with backlinks in my next post.
List of Proxy Browsers
As I just said, Google knows we are searching through a proxy server but won’t know from which IP and therefore who is browsing. You can also choose a pre-paid proxy browser service but for our purpose the following free online proxy browsers will do the job just fine. Here is the sites I mostly use:
How to check your ranking
Once we have entered one of these (or many others) proxy browsers we will find in some place a search bar. There we will ask for your local Google search siete if you want to know your local ranking or Google.com if you want to know your global ranking. Lets say we want to know how we are ranking in the UK, then we will put www.google.co.uk in the search bar.
We have 2 choices:
- We write the main search engine’s url, i.e. www.google.com. This way we will get to the main search engine’s site, where we can make our search query. As we are browsing through a free online proxy browser we will have a few ads somewhere as a banner. Now we can browse with the desired keywords in the search engine’s search bar. This method is the easiest, but for some reason sometimes I have some problems with Google, being redirected to the proxy browser’s main site. Maybe because Google doesn’t like people browsing privately…
- We insert the complete url path of our query. This is the way it will work for sure, as our first search from the proxy browser’s search bar will go directly to the search query’s result page. If we want to search for keywords like “SEO Marketing” we would have the following search query’s url path:
http://www.google.com/search?q=seo+marketing
Remember tu put your local google site (google.com or google.co.uk for UK, i.e.). Also, this method is aplicable to any Search Engine, but I prefer the Oracle.
I hope you have found this post useful for the next time you want to ckeck your rankings.
